New page

'''VCycle''' is a free bike initiative by the [[VSA]].

== History ==
The initiative began as a result of a surplus in the VSA's executive discretionary fund for the 2022–2023 year. The Director of Services for that year decided to use the surplus for a bike share program.<ref name=":0">https://miscellanynews.org/2023/10/26/news/vsa-launches-new-bike-initiative/</ref> The infrastructure for the program was bought from the company On Bike Share and totaled about $39,000.<ref name=":0" />

The rollout brought criticism over glitches in the app required to unlock a bike from the racks.<ref>https://miscellanynews.org/2024/12/04/news/comedians-expose-the-vsa-at-town-hall-roast/</ref><ref>https://miscellanynews.org/2023/11/15/opinions/kinks-in-vcycle-need-to-be-worked-out/</ref>

In April 2026, the Senate changed VCycle into a short-term bike lending program, where bikes can be checked out for a semester.<ref>https://miscellanynews.org/2026/04/16/news/vsa-updates/vsa-highlights-april-12/</ref>
