In 1872 ''The Vassar Miscellany'' was first published, marking the origin of the word Miscellany on Vassar publications. Several other publications bore the name, but the modern ''Miscellany News'' was not founded until 1915.
In modern times the ''Misc'' is the only remaining Vassar newspaper, but in the 1900s there were others, including ''Unscrewed, The Vassar Spectator, Left of Center'', the ''Vassar Chronicle'' and ''Womanspeak''.<ref>https://newspaperarchives.vassar.edu/</ref>
