VCycle is a free bike initiative by the VSA.
History
The initiative began as a result of a surplus in the VSA's executive discretionary fund for the 2022–2023 year. The Director of Services for that year decided to use the surplus for a bike share program.[1] The infrastructure for the program was bought from the company On Bike Share and totaled about $39,000.[1]
The rollout brought criticism over glitches in the app required to unlock a bike from the racks.[2][3]
In April 2026, the Senate changed VCycle into a short-term bike lending program, where bikes can be checked out for a semester.[4]
