This page is a proposal under consideration.
It does not yet reflect consensus and is open for discussion.

A report should be the last resort in response to a policy violation or content dispute. Reports should be submitted on this talk page.

Reports should be closed through archiving the talk page discussion.

Creating a report

Policy violations

Unless it is abundantly clear that a violation was made in bad faith, you should first alert the responsible user on their talk page of the violation(s) and point them to the relevant policy or policies. If violations continue, then you should submit a report.

Your report must include:

  1. The accused user(s), wiki-linked
  2. The specific policies that were violated, with evidence

After creating the report, you should notify the accused user of the report discussion on their talk page.

Content disputes

If a content dispute requires special attention, you should report the dispute. Do not report disputes just because you disagree with the outcome—these reports will be closed.

Your report must include:

  1. The relevant dispute
  2. What remedy you are requesting (some immediate action on the page, alerting more users to the dispute through the Bulletin, etc.)
  3. Users who participated in the discussion, wiki-linked

Report discussions

After a report is created, there should be sufficient time for community discussion on the merits of the report and what response it demands. Any contributor may comment, including any users accused of violating policy.

Closing a report discussion

After sufficient time has passed as to determine community consensus, the discussion may be closed and a verdict/remedy that reflects the consensus should be provided.

The contributor who closes the dispute must be a third party to the dispute. In policy violation cases, only a third-party administrator should close the dispute.

In policy violation cases where the accused user is clearly guilty and their continued presence would significantly disrupt the wiki, the accused may be suspended before they can provide their defense. They retain the right to still appeal the closure on the talk page with their defense.

If you feel that a user closed a dispute in violation of process or consensus, you should submit a policy violation report.

Anonymous participation

You may also anonymously report violations or participate in discussions. Please only do so when absolutely necessary, as anonymous participation will delay a response to the violation.

Since an anonymous report by nature cannot be verified to be from a VassarWiki user, anonymous contributions should not be considered when determining consensus. They should only serve as perspectives for consensus-making contributors on the talk page to consider.
