Jewett House

Milo Jewett House (usually referred to as Jewett House) is one of the nine main residential houses on campus. With nine stories, it is the tallest building on campus and at one point was the tallest in Dutchess County.
History
The building was constructed in 1907 under the name North Hall.[2] In its early years it was also called Pilcher's Crime, after Lewis Pilcher, the Vassar art professor who designed it.[3] In 1915, Henry Noble MacCracken gave the house its current name, after the first president of the college.[2]
According to legend, Jewett resident Edna St. Vincent Millay threatened to throw herself from the roof.[2] Evidently, she didn't follow through with that.[4]
The building underwent extensive renovations in 2003.[2]
