VassarWiki:Creating a page

From VassarWiki

Creating a page on VassarWiki is actually quite simple! There are two main ways to do so:

  1. Go to Special:EditPage and enter the desired title.
  2. Click any red link to the desired title. On desktop, you can do this by searching the desired title.

Don't worry about making your page complete or even presentable at first. VassarWiki is a continual work in progress. If the page is particularly underpopulated or incomplete, you should put Template:Construction at the top of the page (for information on templates, see VassarWiki:Templates).

Before making a new page...

  • Take a look at the inclusion guidelines to ensure that your desired page is within VassarWiki's scope.
  • Search to ensure a page for your subject doesn't already exist. It may exist under an alternative name. If it's under a different name, you should create a redirect or move the page.

Creating a redirect

Going to a redirect will send a reader to another page. This functionality is useful when a subject has multiple common names (e.g. VSA redirects to Vassar Students Association).

To create a redirect, create a page as normal. If you're in the Visual Editor (usually the default), click the hamburger menu on the top right of the toolbar and go to "Page settings". Then select the redirect checkbox and type the title of the page you wish to redirect to. If you're in the Source Editor, click "Advanced" in the toolbar. Click the icon with a page and an arrow in the "Insert" section, and replace "Target page name".
