This page is a proposal under consideration.
It does not yet reflect consensus and is open for discussion.

A report should be the last resort in response to a policy violation or content dispute. Reports should be submitted on this talk page.

Reports should be closed through archiving the talk page discussion.

Policy reports

Unless it is abundantly clear that a violation was made in bad faith, you should first alert the responsible user on their talk page of the violation(s) and point them to the relevant policy or policies. If violations continue, then you should submit a report.

Your report must include:

  1. The accused user(s), wiki-linked
  2. The specific policies that were violated
  3. Any evidence you have of the violations

Following the report, there should be sufficient time for community discussion on the merits of the report and what response it demands. Unless it is a case of clear vandalism, the accused users should be given an opportunity to defend themselves.

After such time has passed, an administrator (who is a third party) can close the dispute with a verdict. If necessary, they may suspend the user. If another user feels that the dispute didn't properly follow process, they should submit another report.

Content dispute reports

If a content dispute requires special attention, you should report the dispute. Do not report disputes just because you disagree with the outcome—these reports will be closed.

Your report must include:

  1. The relevant dispute
  2. What remedy you are requesting (some immediate action on the page, alerting more users to the dispute through the Bulletin, etc.)

Any third party (including non-administrators) can close a dispute.

Anonymous participation

You may also anonymously report violations or participate in discussions. Please only do so when absolutely necessary, as anonymous participation will delay a response to the violation.

Since an anonymous report by nature cannot be verified to be from a VassarWiki user, anonymous contributions should not be considered when determining consensus. They should only serve as perspectives for consensus-making contributors on the talk page to consider.
