VassarWiki:What should I contribute?

From VassarWiki
This page reflects the position of one or more contributors.
It is not meant to reflect VassarWiki consensus. If you disagree, consider discussing on the talk page or writing another page.

You can contribute almost anything to VassarWiki—this openness is the project's greatest strength! But you might then have the question: What should I contribute? Answering this question can be a challenge, especially for those new to wiki editing. This page is a guide to help you out.

Prompts

You're almost certainly involved with some group on campus—check and see if it has a page. If it doesn't, you should make one! If a page exists already, there's lots you can add to it! Share your meeting hours and contact information so other students can get involved. If you have an event coming up, promote it (if you use Template:Poster on the page, it will soon show up on Upcoming Events). Link to your club's constitution, zines, or other resources.[1] There's also no need for your group to be certified by VSA to be included here. For example, campus bands are totally fair game—include your members, your discography, and links to where people can find your music!

Did you attend an event you don't want to forget? Memorialize it! Depending on how much material you have to contribute, you could make a page for the event or include details about it on the organizer's page. If you took pictures or videos, upload them to Wikimedia Commons to include them here (but be mindful of people's privacy).

If you've published scholarship while at Vassar, or if you've worked on a unique project like a senior thesis or independent study, don't let it go unseen. Provide a link to the project, a summary, and/or the project in full.[1]

Alums: share your institutional knowledge! a beloved tradition that died out, or a piece of campus lore that went forgotten. If you were a member of a group, add your name and class year to a "Past members" section. Feel free to link to what you're doing after leaving the Vassar bubble on your user page.

Reading the wiki and notice a spelling or grammatical mistake? Correct it! Even if you're not associated with that group, you can still help them out—VassarWiki is a collective project.
